Mirror Lenses: Ray-Ban in Wonderland
How can sunglasses become the most vibrant and memorable? Is it only through color and shape? Perhaps, through the charismatic wearer? Of course, all of this is not enough.
To truly highlight sunglasses, you need just one detail. And that detail is mirrored lenses! V-)
The History of Reflections
A mirror is an object with a polished surface that allows optical images of objects to form and reflect light rays. The first mentions of mirrors date back to the 3rd millennium BC when they were made of silver and bronze. Glass mirrors appeared among the Romans in the 1st century AD, after which there was no information about them until the 13th century. Starting from the 17th century, their popularity and variety have continued to grow...
In 1930, the American company Bausch&Lomb proposed applying a layer of finely ground metal particles to lenses, which protected eyes from blinding light. This innovation was initially intended for use by the U.S. Air Force.
And in 1937, Ray-Ban began mass-producing mirrored lenses. By the end of World War II, their popularity had spread worldwide, thanks to journalists’ love for publishing photos of General Douglas MacArthur of the U.S. Army wearing mirrored aviators.
The hippie style of the 1960s only further increased the popularity of mirrored lenses, which continues to this day.
Reflect, Sir!
In optical manufacturing, there are several ways to limit light flow: absorption (lens tinting, chameleon effect, and polarization) and reflection (anti-glare coating on the inside or mirror coating on the outside).
Why did they start using the latter in optics? It turns out that mirror coating makes the eyes almost invisible and provides additional protection from light exposure.
In Ray-Ban sunglasses, the mirror coating consists of a thin layer of silver crystals applied to the outer surface of polarized lenses. The Mirror technology provides excellent protection from visible light and 100% UV protection for the wearer.
Only 15% of light passes through Ray-Ban mirror lenses, which means your eyes are well-protected from external irritants without losing image quality. At the same time, it should be noted that such glasses are not recommended for cloudy weather, but they are ideal for winter sports or sunbathing.
Today, mirrored lenses represent not only practicality but also fashion. This is confirmed by the love of showbiz stars for these glasses. Brad Pitt, Rihanna, Zac Efron, Hilary Duff, Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones, fashion bloggers, models, and many others choose them. That says something!
And if you want to be part of this Wonderland, stand out from the crowd, and NEVER HIDE, then Ray-Ban Mirror is definitely for you, especially since we have so many models with mirrored lenses!
