Ray-Ban Folding: collapsible is modern
Sunglasses are an item where it’s almost impossible to find flaws in usage: they don't run out of battery (like smartphones) and they don’t need servicing (like cars).
Among the few disadvantages of eyewear are dirty lenses, broken frames, or simply losing them. But the most annoying thing is: they take up SPACE. Yes, not a lot, but sometimes even that is unavailable. A woman's clutch or a lack of a bag for men—and voila, you have to squint as soon as the sun unexpectedly appears.
The Ray-Ban brand cares so much about its customers that it aims to eliminate even such seemingly insignificant inconveniences. And with the Folding technology, that has become possible! :)
Break it down
Folding, translated from English, means "collapsible, foldable." This name was given for a reason, as its key difference from other designs is that now sunglasses can be folded and unfolded whenever you want.
Ray-Ban designers have enhanced the metal components with hinged mechanisms that allow the frame to shrink in half. The frame folds at the temples and bridge.
How does it work? First, fold the temples in half, then close them (as you would with any other frame) and fold the front section. A couple of easy moves, and the glasses are now in the palm of your hand!
Special attention should be given to how all the joints are crafted so professionally (they are neat and smooth) that no one would ever guess about the little foldable secret of your sunglasses! :)
Interestingly, foldable models have already become something of a tradition. All well-known eyewear brands have at least one foldable pair! After Ray-Ban Folding, similar frame technology was adopted by Persol, Prada, Gucci, Carrera, Burberry, and Sunpocket.
Ray-Ban Foldables
2012. That year, Ray-Ban, known for its love of innovation, launched its first foldable model. These were the Wayfarer, which today come with both classic lenses and mirrored ones.
It was an anniversary year—75 years—so in November, they released another exclusive collection (just 7,500 pieces!), the Folding Aviator Ultra: classic teardrop lenses housed in a foldable metal frame with gold detailing.
Sunglasses with folding technology became widely popular, as it became clear that this mechanism was truly durable and long-lasting. The following year, they introduced the Folding Aviator line—this time without the gold. :) And in 2014, foldables even made their way to the Clubmasters.
Finally, let’s highlight the leather case for Ray-Ban Folding, which has a fun square shape and attracts many looks when you pull out your sunglasses!
In short, if you value efficiency (especially space-saving) and love to stand out (especially under the slogan NEVER HIDE), then Ray-Ban Folding is not just a spontaneous desire but a real necessity! :)
