Ray-Ban Outdoorsman: A Life of Travel

Ray-Ban Outdoorsman: a life full of travels

Ray-Ban Outdoorsman Sunglasses

It seems nothing could surpass the Aviator collection: classic sunglasses with different lens and frame materials, colors, sizes, and even the folding feature (Folding). But no, there is still a model just as iconic as the Aviators, but even more interesting: Ray-Ban Outdoorsman.

Are you the third?!

In 1939, two years after the launch of Aviator and one year after Shooter, Ray-Ban introduced sunglasses that were initially called “Skeet Glass” (literally translating to skeet – clay pigeon shooting, glass – lens).

This model differed from the already familiar Aviators by having a bridge (made of leather or mother-of-pearl) across the nose area, designed to protect the eyes from sweat. This structure made these sunglasses instantly popular among active individuals — hikers, fishermen, and hunters.

Soon, the model was renamed to Outdoorsman, which translates to “traveler” or “wanderer.” In addition to the mentioned feature, the designers added temple tips matching the color of the frame to emphasize their uniqueness compared to Aviator.

Exciting adventures

Today, the world knows not just one version of Ray-Ban Outdoorsman sunglasses but five!

1. Classical Outdoorsman, with curved temple tips for a secure fit.

2. Outdoorsman II: same as the first option but with regular temple tips.

3. Outdoorsman Craft: leather-covered bridge, and some models feature the P3 Plus lens, offering 100% polarization and dirt-repellent coating (water and oil):

4. Outdoorsman II Rainbow, likely named for their bright lens colors and colored bridges over the nose:

5. Outdoorsman Road Spirit: released for Ray-Ban's 70th anniversary, these sunglasses are unique in that the entire lens perimeter is set into plastic, matching the bridge. This innovation makes the sunglasses even more durable and distinctive:
