Ray-Ban Caravan: the adventure begins
What makes Ray-Ban the most famous sunglasses brand in the world? It's quite simple. This eyewear manufacturer never rests on its laurels, year after year improving old designs and introducing new colors, shapes, and technologies. A broad vision and attention to detail—these are the two key factors that have propelled Ray-Ban to the top of the fame ladder.
It has always been this way. Even in the early days of its popularity, the brand knew how to surprise and capture attention. An example of this was the introduction of Ray-Ban Caravan, an updated version of the Aviators.
Thanks to Martin Scorsese!
The fifties were quite a hot time. For example, the classic G-15 lens, with its gray-green tint capable of the most natural color reproduction, emerged during this period.
It was in 1957 when Ray-Ban Caravan sunglasses, the fourth model with a metal frame, were launched.
"Caravan" in English means not only a caravan of camels but also a trailer or wagon. The name perfectly associates the sunglasses with travel, as the frame of these glasses is ideal for an active lifestyle (whether for business meetings or unforgettable adventures).
True popularity struck this model after the release of the 1976 film "Taxi Driver," directed by Martin Scorsese, which was awarded the "Palme d'Or." In the film, the main character, a sociopathic veteran played by Robert De Niro, works as a taxi driver in Ray-Ban Caravan sunglasses.
«Caravans»
As mentioned earlier, Ray-Ban Caravan is based on the teardrop-shaped Aviators and features a square design with slightly rounded edges.
The metal frame is minimalist and has a double bridge (the part of the frame over the nose). Initially, "caravans" were produced with black and gray-green lenses, but now other variations are available.
Returning to the topic of innovation, the materials and technologies of this model have also been played with by optical designers. Today, in addition to the classic Caravan, there are Caravan Craft (with a leather bridge over the nose that protects the eyes from sweat) and Caravan Flip Out (with a feature allowing you to swap lenses in just a few seconds).
For luxury lovers, there’s also the Caravan Ultra collection, with frames made of titanium coated in white or yellow gold, and lenses featuring P3Plus technology: polarization combined with water and oil repellent effects.
So, without much fuss but with great success, Ray-Ban has once again upgraded its model lineup. And if you're looking for something classic yet different from Aviators, and if you can't live without travel, then Ray-Ban Caravan are the sunglasses that will highlight your adventurous spirit! :)
