Ray-Ban Signet: Hollywood Sealed
Cinema, champagne, confetti, cigars, dresses with open backs and sequins, fun, all-consuming, universal, never-ending celebration — this is the Hollywood of the distant fifties.
If for you, Hollywood is exactly like this, mesmerizing and captivating, perhaps it's time to meet the model that embodies it all — the Signet.
The Third Stage
1953. The year the third Ray-Ban model — Signet — was introduced. Yes, you read that right, these sunglasses came right after the legendary Aviator of 1937 and Wayfarer of 1952.
What was their charm? Imagine: a gold or silver frame, reminiscent of the playful "cat-eye," combined with a horizontal stripe on the bridge, front corners, and temples. Could anything be more glamorous and Hollywood?
As for the name, "Signet" translates literally as a seal or signet ring. And there's something to that, as these sunglasses became a kind of "seal" of the unstoppable America of the mid-20th century.
A Touch of Indie
Time went on, and the popular model was refined with new colors and lenses. It seemed like an ordinary story from the world of optics.
But then came 2011, a year that marked a turning point for Signet. Johnny Marr, the legendary guitarist of the indie-rock band The Smiths, collaborated with Ray-Ban to create an original pair of sunglasses of THIS very model!
This collaboration was driven by Marr’s personal love for the brand's sunglasses. According to his manager, 17 years ago, when he first met the guitarist, Marr was wearing a pair of Ray-Bans.
It’s worth noting that Johnny Marr is the first musician in Ray-Ban's history to be offered the chance to change the shades and design of the Signet model in honor of its historical connection to rock ‘n’ roll.
The Smiths' guitarist designed his Signet model in a moody blue shade with a unique metal frame, adding the autograph "Johnny" on the temples.
The production of the limited Ray-Ban Signet Johnny Marr collection is tied to the brand's first involvement in the "Raw Sounds Initiative," a project aimed at supporting young artists.
So, if Hollywood means more than just a word to you, then Ray-Ban Signet, as the seal of an entire generation, is already waiting for you in our store.
